The EPRC was established in 1993 in a period of far-reaching donor-supported economic reforms in Uganda. It was designed to fill fundamental voids in economics research, policy analysis, and capacity building for effective in-country contributions to Uganda’s policy processes. In this context, the EPRC was created to provide analytical backstopping for policy dialogue, formulation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.
With intellectual design inputs from the Oxford-Cambridge Society of Uganda, seed grant from the African Capacity Building Foundation, and land for office block given by Makerere University, the EPRC commenced activities in 1994. Since then, the Centre has benefited from sustained core institutional grants from the ACBF and Government of Uganda.
Fostering sustainable growth and development of the Ugandan economy through the advancement of research-based knowledge and applied policy analysis.
The EPRC envisions itself as a center of excellence capable of national leadership in intellectual economic policy discourse through timely research-based contributions to policy processes.
