Oryx Energies has been present in Uganda since November 2012, when it acquired Engen Uganda Ltd, as part of the planned expansion of its integrated downstream energy platform across sub-Saharan Africa. Engen Uganda was renamed Oryx Oil Uganda Ltd.
The acquisition includes 10 service stations that are being rebranded under the Oryx Energies name. The service stations are principally situated in and around the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
Oryx Energies intends to invest significantly in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) infrastructure in Uganda, where there is a need for an environmentally friendly and affordable energy alternative, especially in rural areas. This reflects our strategy of promoting LPG as a modern replacement for firewood, charcoal and kerosene on the continent.
In Uganda, Oryx Energies will benefit from the extensive storage and distribution capacities managed by other Oryx Energies subsidiaries in the region, to ensure a reliable supply of fuel as well as other products and services. These include strong storage facilities in neighbouring Kenya, as well as a major storage terminal and a wholly-owned lubricants blending plant in Tanzania. Oryx Energies has extensive experience in LPG sourcing and distribution, and a growing presence in the bitumen market, all of which will help service the needs of customers in Uganda.
