The Uganda Police Force (UPF) is established under Article 211 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda 1995 and Section 2 of the Police Act Cap 303.

Under Article 212 of the Constitution, the UPF is mandated to :

Protect life and property

Preserve law and order

Prevent and detect crimes

Cooperate with civilian authority and other security organs established under the constitution and with the population generally
