Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) was registered in March 2003 after a merger between Uganda Teacher’s Association (UTA) and Uganda National Teachers (UNUT), UNATU was formed to promote and protect teacher’s rights and obligations for improved working and living conditions. UNATU uses the strength of numbers to bargain and advocate for improved teaching and learning environments in order to realize quality public education in Uganda. Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) has continued to grow and has a membership of over 83,000 teachers
